Hard rubbish collection vs hiring a skip bin

Hard rubbish collection

  • Households get 1-2 free collections each year.
  • You can throw away up to 2 cubic metres worth, but this will vary depending on your council area.
  • Often long waiting times to secure a booking slot.
  • If you don’t put your rubbish out by the booked date, the council will still count it as one of your yearly collections. It cannot be
    reinstated.
  • Will not collect many types of waste, including e-waste, car parts and renovation waste.

Skip bin

While free hard rubbish collection is definitely appealing, you can be quite limited by the waste types and the collection sizes. If you only need to dispose of one or two items and you don’t mind waiting for the council, then hard rubbish collection might be your best option. But if you have piles of waste, or waste not accepted by the council’s rubbish collection service, it’s definitely worth booking a skip bin. And it’s not as expensive as you might think.
