If a client fills a waste bin before originally anticipated, a quick phone call or email to the office is all that is required to arrange a new pick-up date.

If a skip bin is over the maximum weight limit allowed for the size of the bin our office staff will be notified by the driver before removing the bin. The client will be immediately notified that overweight fees will apply.

Please Note: Additional fees will be incurred for bins that are over the maximum skip bin weight limit.

To dispose of soil in Adelaide, start by differentiating between clean and contaminated soil. If the soil is clean, consider reusing it for landscaping, offer it to others or place it in your garden waste bin. However, for larger quantities of soil, consider hiring a skip bin for soil removal, dirt or sand. Just make sure the soil is free of any contaminants and only fill your skip bin 3⁄4 of the way up. You can also place sand, dirt, clay and stones into this waste-type bin.

Start with the obvious clutter. Begin decluttering by getting rid of any clear rubbish or recycling in your home.

The rule of 5 for decluttering is to remove at least 5 items from each room to throw out, donate or recycle.

Decluttering 20 rule: If you can replace an item for less than $20 or in under 20 minutes, it’s likely unnecessary to keep.

Recycled batteries in Australia are typically processed to recover valuable materials, like metals and plastic. The precious metals and plastics are then used to create something new.

When disposed of incorrectly, some batteries still end up in landfill, where they can release harmful chemicals that can contaminate soil and water.

Batteries should never be discarded in any kerb-side bins because they are hazardous to the environment. Batteries need to be recycled and sorted at recycling centres and facilities.

Yes, bricks can be recycled whether they are broken or in perfect condition. To recycle bricks you need a specific brick disposal skip bin – like the brick and concrete bin at Just Skips.

To dispose of cement correctly, you need to water-activate the cement first, let it harden and then place it in the skip bin for the rubbish removalists to pick up. That way if there is moisture in the skip bin, the cement will not be able to activate and damage the bin itself.

No, bricks and concrete cannot go in a standard, curb-side red or blue bin. This is not in line with SA rules and regulations when it comes to waste management and can result in a serious fine. If you need brick removal, you can hire a brick and concrete skip bin from a local waste removal company.

The most effective ways to remove any rocks from your soil is by using a tiller, a rake or a wheelbarrow with a wire screening fence over the top (this will essentially work as a strainer).

If you have hard soil lying around your yard, the best way to soften it is to add compost and use a hand cultivating tool. This way you can re-use it for future projects.

Aside from ordering a skip bin for soil disposal, you can try recycling large amounts of soil. Simply contact any landscaping contractor or garden centre, and more often than not they will be happy to take it off your hands. You will need to transport it yourself and sometimes there may be a small fee.

There are plenty of options when it comes to disposing of clay soil. These include:

  • Recycling centres that accept clay and dirt
    Recycle it for future projects
Hire a skip bins for dirt, soil, and sand
Create an online listing on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace
Landscapers or builders that accept clay soil
Gardening centres that accept clay soil

You can dispose of dirt and rock at the following locations:

  • Clean fill dumping sites
    Recycling centres
    Recycle it for future projects
Hire a skip bins for dirt, soil, and sand
Landscapers or builders that accept dirt
    Gardening centres that accept dirt

No, you cannot put electrical wires in a standard general waste bin. Electrical wires are still considered an e-waste item, so they should always be taken to an e-waste recycling facility.

Because electric blankets are a form of e-waste, they need to be dropped off an e-waste facility and cannot be disposed of in any curbside bin. You can contact your local council to find your nearest drop off recycling facility.

You cannot dispose of any electrical items in a standard recycle bin. All electrical items need to be either disposed of at an e-waste recycling facility or in a skip bin, presuming it fits the requirements.

Tyres are made from synthetic rubber, which is a non-biodegradable material. This means that they do not decompose naturally over time. Improperly disposing of tyres can attract pests and create environmental hazards. Therefore, it is crucial to dispose of tires responsibly and consider recycling options we touched on above.

Yes, broken or damaged tyres can still be recycled. In the recycling process, the tyres are typically shredded into smaller pieces. These pieces are then processed to separate the rubber, steel, and fibres for reuse in various ways.

Commonly, Scrap tyres are processed to recover valuable materials such as rubber, steel, and textile fibres. These materials can be used to produce new tyres, playground surfaces, athletic tracks, construction materials, and more.

Most e-waste contains precious resources like gold, steel, aluminium, plastic and glass – all of which can be reused and recycled into other products (circular economy). They’re also full of toxic chemicals that leach into our soil and water supply if dumped in landfill, so recycling e-waste is the only sustainable and legal disposal method.

Computers and laptops can be safely and legally disposed of at any e-waste recycling facility or through your local council’s hard rubbish collection. If the laptop still works, you might also consider selling it online or giving it away for free.

Yes, CDs and DVDs do count as e-waste, so you still need to follow electronic waste disposal best practices when getting rid of them. If you like DIY and crafting, you might even want to turn them into something new.

Just Skips can accept CDs and DVDs in our general waste or mixed waste skip bins so you can dispose of them during decluttering

Yes, most recycling centres in Australia will take your old microwaves, along with a range of other electrical waste. However, you cannot put microwaves into your general waste bin, mixed waste skip bin, or recycling bin, or take them to landfill.

Environmentalists believe that e-waste will increase by more than 60% (approximately 223,000 tonnes) by 2024, according to the Victorian Government. Since e-waste is responsible for 70% of the toxic chemicals that end up in our soil and water supply, it’s vital that everyone is proactive when it comes to e-waste recycling.

The Australian government has developed an e-waste recycling scheme that allows everyone to recycle their electronic waste for free. This way, the valuable materials, including aluminium, gold, silver, and copper can be recovered and reused for something new. However, you can’t just throw your electronics into the yellow recycling bin. You will need to take them to a free recycling drop off point yourself.

Green waste in Australia is put through a mechanical shedding machine, which is then composted. After maturing for 3-6 months, the compost can be sold to the public or used for Australian farms.

Learn more: Home composting: how to compost garden waste

Although food waste can be used to create compost, this cannot be put into a green waste skip bin. Instead, you can hire a general waste skip bin and load all your compost in there.

The best way to get rid of your green waste is by putting it into your garden waste bin. If you have too much green waste, you can always hire a garden waste skip bin for your convenience.

It’s estimated that around 23 million mobile phones are discarded in Australia each year, either thrown in a drawer or forgotten about. This is a significant amount of e-waste that could be recycled to recover valuable materials and prevent hazardous materials from being released into the environment.

Electronic devices are built to withhold and withstand the effects of time and decomposition. Glass on your mobile will take around 1 million years to break down, the plastic on your computer mouse is estimated around 3-4 million years to decompose and your heavy-duty battery will last a similar time period.

You will need to take them to a free recycling drop-off point yourself.

Yes! As long as they are free of any hazardous materials, concrete and bricks can be recycled for future use. If you have leftover bricks and concrete, you can also reuse these for future DIY renovation projects

We recommend taking your concrete waste to a waste disposal facility or hiring a reputable skip bin provider (like Just Skips) to dispose of it for you. This way you can trust that your hazardous materials will be disposed of properly.

Learn more: How To Dispose Of Bricks And Concrete

Bricks and heavy materials like concrete must not be placed into the general waste bin. This type of waste is considered hazardous as it contains certain materials like paint and asbestos, which can contaminate other waste and become harmful to the environment and human health. While bricks cannot go into a general waste skip bin, they can be removed using a concrete bin or mixed waste bin. If you aren’t sure which skip bin you need, call our friendly team on (08) 8255 6677 for advice.

General waste, also known as solid waste, can be broken down into three main categories – municipal waste, commercial and industrial waste, and construction and demolition waste. Hazardous waste, on the other hand, is waste that can affect either human health or the environment. This type of waste includes paints, varnish, adhesives, chemicals, e-waste, asbestos, and medical waste. In fact, hazardous waste has been banned from landfill and will need to be taken to a household chemical and paint drop-off centre instead.

Yes. General waste includes many household items, such as furniture, clothing, fibreglass, and so on. You will need a general waste skip bin for these bulky items.

The cost of a skip bin depends on a number of factors, including your location, the waste you need to dispose of, the size of the skip and how long you need it for. When you hire waste bins online at Just Skips, you can see how the skip bin prices change as you add in more details.

You can hire a skip bin from Just Skips Adelaide and keep it on your drive for the length of a short or longer-term hire. When you order the skip bin, you will need to specify how long you’ll need the bin for.
For your convenience, we also offer long-term and short-term skip bin hire. Please contact our friendly team for more information.

Yes, you can put old clothes in a skip bin. However, you might want to consider donating them to a second-hand store if they’re still wearable!

If you overfill your skip bin you will either have to hire an additional bin to house the excess waste or find an alternative way of removing the additional material.

When it comes to overfilled skip bins, we are unable to cover the contents securely, it is illegal to transport, and therefore can not be removed. If you’re not present at the site when the bin collection occurs, our driver will be forced to remove the excess material. If the driver is unable to remove the overloaded material, the office staff will contact the client and give them the opportunity to order another skip at the same rate (or a smaller bin if required) to place the overloaded items into. An appropriate collection date will then be arranged.

All labour costs incurred by having to remove excess rubbish will be billed under additional charges and will be billed directly to you.

In cases where the excess is not removed and the skip remains for extended periods, the customer will be liable for additional charges including rental, labour costs and additional transport costs if necessary.

Under no circumstances can a skip bin be filled above the rim. All of our skip bins and mini skip bins have a maximum height fill point that must be respected. This is due to Occupational Health and Safety regulations, which require full skip bins to be covered while in transit. It is also illegal in Adelaide to transport an overfilled skip bin.

Please Note: The 9m skip bin can only be ¾ filled with clean fill and concrete/brick/tiles. If a 9m bin is over ¾ filled with these contents our truck may not be able to lift the bin onto the truck to remove it.
